Privileged interview

Starry Constellation, June 2007

Q. What are the recent projects that you are working on ?
A. We shot the pilot for "Privileged" in the late spring and then I did a new David Mamet play for the Center Theatre Group here in LA in May and June. Then I heard the show got picked up during that play and I went straight back to it after the play was over.

Q. Please tell us the premise for your show "Privileged" and about your character Charlie.
A. The show centers on Megan, played by Joanna Garcia, who is an aspiring writer fresh out of college, eager to make her mark on the world. She gets fired from her job in New York and is offered a job tutoring billionaire heiresses. Their parents aren't around and they live with their extremely wealthy grandmother in Palm Beach, Florida. Megan takes the job and we learn that she is actually from south Florida and left a difficult family situation. I play her best friend, Charlie.

Q. Why did you want to be a part of show ?
A. I liked the show because it centers on some very strong female characters, which there are so few of in TV. I like the humor in the show. I grew up with brothers and no sisters, so a lot of the humor and relationships are new to me and I just love it.

Q. What about your role did you find challenging ?
A. I didn't find anything challenging about the role. Charlie more or less fits me like a glove.

Q. Where do you draw on for your portrayal of Charlie ?
A. I just try to have as much fun as possible when I go to work. The schedule that we work in episodic TV is one of the more demanding schedules in show business. So my thinking is if we're going to be there a long time, we might as well have fun. So I just try to have as much fun as possible as often as possible.

Q. Was there instant cast chemistry when you came together or did it take time to develop ?
A. In my experience, we clicked pretty early on. I worked with Joanna mostly at first and she and I get along really well. She's really great to work with and super skilled as an actor.

Q. What about the show sets it apart from others in it's genre ?
A. I think the fact that the show is funny is really unique. Most one hour shows are more dramatic and soapy. Also, the show is more wholesome and frank. The way that we deal with the pains of growing up storylines are more honest and realistic and funny.

Q. Why will people want to tune in to watch "Privileged" ?
A. Because it's a funny show about girls trying to find their way and people want to see shows that feature women who stand up for themselves and have a point of view and a voice.

Q. You've done several projects with the CW. What makes working with the network so appealing ?
A. The main thing about the CW that makes them appealing is that they keep hiring me. Above all else, that is my favorite thing about this network. In addition to that, I enjoy working on stuff that is aimed at a younger audience. It is fun.

Q. What would you like to say to all of your fans and supporters ?
A. Thank you for watching and supporting me. I hope I continue to work so that you have something to watch.
